Friends - Mixed Media Canvas

Hello Everyone,
Shilpa here, I am Guest Designer at Eclectic Paperie for June.
Thanks so much  Kim for this wonderful opportunity!

I've mixed media canvas to share with you today for which I've used lots of Ranger goodies.

I've prepared small step by step for this.. let's see

I started off with Ranger Mixed Media Cardstock. I've used Tim's technique here-When Distress paint dries completely , it resist distress stain. For the first layer I applied Picket fence distress stain through Tim's Lace stencil. Heat set it with Heat tool.

Spritzed Cracked Pistachio and Mermaid Lagoon Distress stain sprays on the surface....
Love these colors!
Picket fence resisted distress stain colors..created wonderful background.

I adhered torn piece of Wallflower paper in the middle.
Next layer is with Vintage photo distress ink and Tim's Blossom stencil. I also applied vintage photo for all edges of canvas.

Birds collage piece is from Wallflower Paper collection again. I cut out leaves from sizzix Garden green die, colored them with Peeled paint distress stain and vintage photo ink.
'Friends' sentiment is chipboard accent which I colored with mermaid lagoon Distress paint.

Butterfly is die cut from Tim's Butterfly Duo sizzix die set. I colored it with Mermaid Lagoon distress stain spray. The metal frame behind is from Ideology Industrious Stickers.

Have you liked it? do let me know ...
Thanks so much for stopping by..see you on next Wednesday!

Happy Anniversary ~ Early!

Hi Everyone!  It's Sue Lelli here and I made an anniversary card for my DH early because I just received some new products from eclectic Paperie in the mail and I was itching to try them out!  I'll just save it until our anniversary in November!  LOL!
Here's My card:
What I WANTED to do was have a starfish in the center cut out with text underneath.  It would have been easier if the Tim Holtz alterations sand and sea die cuts had been separate but the weren't. So I improvised!  I ended up stacking fat chipboard over the images I didn't want to cut out and running it through my die cut machine.  They cut out anyway but there was so much texture and color and product on my Tim Holtz distress watercolor cardstock top page that when I pieced it back together like a puzzle, you really couldn't see it!  And I got the look I wanted!
I also wanted the seahorse floating in the water surrounded by bubbles (Tim Holtz texture fades - bubbles and waves) with it's tail wrapped around a plant.  That's how they REALLY look when you dive, hiding in plants and blending in to the surroundings.  For the plant I die cut a branch from the Tim Holtz spring greenery decorative strip.   I put wet glue on it and sprinkled Tim Holtz Distress Glitter on top.  LOVE the glimmer it adds!

I LOVE this seahorse and I puposely had the word MEMORY show through.  (I wanted to remind my DH of all of the FAB memories we have together.)  The text is Tim Holtz melange tissue wrap stained with tea dye Distress ink.
Here you can see the Wendy Vecchi translucent embossing paste.  I LOVE that it dries clear and looks wet on your project!

Here you can see the Prima seaweed flower and the Prima resin shells I added.  The idea-ology word band sentiment was perfect since this IS an anniversary card and we are living the life we have imagined!  Literally!  I tied it on with idea-ology jute.
The kraft paper behind the watercolor and text layers is my new FAB Tim Holtz idea-ology resist paper.  It is so cool with a design embossed on it so when you add ink, the embossing shows through.  This one I used has mini distressed dots ~ going with the bubble theme!

And on the inside, I put a photograph of last year when we renewed our vows for our 25th anniversary.  It was a dream!  Look at the color of that water and how it is mimicked by the distress paint colors on the outside of my card.

 Process Photos:
I squished some Tim Holtz Distress Paint on to an inksenssitials craft sheet I have cut to 8x8.  (I found it's easier to have several layers of craft sheets so your entire work surface doesn't get dirty ~ just small bits!)  Then I spritzed it with a mini mister filled with water.

I swiped Tim Holtz distress watercolor card stock through the paint once,

Then twice and this is what I had.  What I LOVE about these Distress Paints is that they react to water when they are wet and you can make them move around but when they are dry, they are permanent and you can add more layers and colors without creating mud.
So:
I added some darker Tim Holtz Distress paints and swiped again.  Then it was too dark for me so I made two rows of two lighter blue shades of Distress Paints (in colors I already used):

And laid the cardstock straight down on top of the paint:
Then I sprayed it again with water from the mini mister.

I was happy with the colors but turned it upside down so the drip lines went up.  Then I embossed it with my new Tim Holtz texture fades bubble embossing folder.  I used the Tim Holtz sanding grip block on top of it to make the bubbles look white and stand out.

Here I added Wendy Vecchi's Studio 490 translucent embossing paste through the Dina Wakely plastic canvas stencil.  This dries completely clear and made the card front look wet.  LOVE that WV translucent embossing paste AND that DW Stencil!
Those are all the photos I remembered to take.  I got caught up in the creative moment!

I hope you like my card!
THX for stopping by!

Memory Book For Lisa

Hi Everyone!  It's Sue Lelli here today to share a memory book I made for a sweet friend who is moving.  I learned how to make this book in a Dina Wakley class I took recently (I KNOW, Lucky Me!)  Warning ~ LOTS of photos:

Front cover - All of the pages are made with Ranger watercolor paper.  The rose was made using the Prima Floral Rose Stencil ~ LOVE!  The gold dots are Wendy Vecchi's Studio 490 metallic gold embossing paste.  The gold on the rose petals is Inka-Gold which I rubbed on with my finger.
If you look closely, you will see that I used Inksessentials sticky back over the tag that binds the book and I applied Dina Wakley Heavy Body acrylic paint with the stencil OVER the sticky back to make it disappear into the page.  I sewed the sticky back down just to make sure it would stick there forever - even in the Florida humidity!

On the first two pages I made circles with the Mini Ink blending tool.  It makes the perfect sized circles.  I also applied DW paint through the TCW Chevron Tiles Stencil with the mini blending tool.  I learned this works so much better than a paintbrush with paint because you can control the amount of paint and eliminate seepage I always get using a paintbrush.

On these pages I applied the paint through the Dina Wakley Plastic Canvas Stencil to make a colorful border.  You can see the binding and half of an envelope peeking through the pages.
Here the DW paint was applied through the TCW coffee splotch stencil.

Here I used the heart from the Dina Wakley Basic Masks stencil which is both a stencil and different masks!  Brilliant product!  There are actually 3 hearts but one is covered by the photo.

Here I used the TCW Chevron Tile stencil but this is the paint that was left on the stencil after I used it.  I pressed it onto the pages and brayered it to make the paint spread evenly.  The solid yellow circles were again made with the mini blending tool.  The open circles were made using the paint cap from a TH Distress Paint.

The border was just painted on and the heart was made with the DW basic mask stencil.  There is a heart on the page that was masked but when I put Lisa's photo on the page, the heart was covered.  So I made another heart to put on top.

The last two pages were stenciled with Wendy Vecchi's Add a Stencil.  The paint blobbed in a couple of places so I just added a dot of paint in the centers and made them look like mini flowers.  The stitching you see will be covered up with an envelope of personal notes written by her friends.

Another rose from the Prima Stencil and my FAVORITE of all time stencil EVER made by Wendy Vecchi - Barcode Stencil.  EVERYONE should own this FABULOUS stencil!  I'm thinking I am going to buy a second one for when I wear this one out!
Also do you see the hot pink dots on the back?  It is Art Anthology Dimensional Crystals in Peony.  LOVE the subtle texture and pop of colors it adds!

This is what the back and front of Lisa's book looks like when it is wide open.

A couple of process photos:
The tag that becomes the book binding stamped with text and painted through the TCW Chevron tile stencil.

What the stencil looked like after I used it over and over with the Dina Wakley paints!  FYI - I am a clean mixed media artist and a must have for me is the Inksessentials Craft Scrubbie!  It takes the paint right off.  I like clean stencils - I know - weird!  LOL!

Here is the tag that becomes the book binding.  Each folded watercolor paper page gets tied to the binding through two holes with waxed book binding thread.  I used different colors and will be hanging charms off the strings at a later date.

I also find I like using a smaller piece of a non stick craft sheet to put my paints on.  Yes I bought a second craft sheet and cut it up!  I clean this with my scrubbie, too!

I not only bought the mini blending tools but the replacement foams as well.  Dina gave us such a GREAT tip!  She said to just throw the foam in your paint water and when you go to wash them, the paint just comes out.  You can dry them and use them over and over!  No more dried up foam for me that I have to throw away because I just left them on my craft sheet!

Here are the pages (from the inside) all tied to the accordian manila tag.

Here's what the book looks like from the back all tied up BEFORE the sticky back is added.

WHEW!  Are you still with me?
I had so much FUN making this book!  It is going to be filled with photos and messages from Lisa's friends in our neighborhood.  I hope it brings back memories of all of the great times we had when she lived here!

this makes me happy

Hi Everyone!  It's Sue L. here today to show you a 6x6 canvas I made using TH Distress Paints and
Inka Gold.  I have named it:

This sentiment is from Tim Holtz Life Remnant Rub Ons.  It just sums up how I felt when the canvas was done!

To make the sun and the rays, I first applied Wendy Vecchi embossing paste through a Viva Decor stencil, turning it to look like the sun.  The embossed image  so much texture and interest to the canvas!

In this photo, I angled the frame and washed light over it so you could see the shine the Inka Gold added!  That was my last step and I applied it with a tiny paintbrush to get in the fine lines.  I think it adds the warmth of sunshine to the canvas!  I also have a vivid imagination!

Process Photos:
Here you can see the Wendy Vecchi embossing paste pattern left by the stencil.  You can also see how I applied green and yellow and white TH Distress Paints along the bottom, turned the canvas upside down, and spritzed it with a Inkssentials Mister bottle until the paints marbled how I liked them.  You can also see how I started adding paint splats with more TH Distress Paints to make flowers.

I used the same technique for the sky base.

The water sprayed on it did the trick, and I kept adding more colors and paint until the color looked right to me.  Then I painted the sun bigger and splattered and splatted different colors of TH Distress paints until I was happy.  And in case you forgot, here is the end result:
I hope you like it and are inspired to try something new to you like I did!

Birthday Triptych with Stencils and Paints and so much more!

Hi Everyone!  It's Sue L. here today to show you a Birthday Triptych I made with three plain chipboard coasters:
This is the inside with all three coasters open.

This is the triptych all folded up and how I will put it in the envelope.

Left side closed - I made the leaves match the inside third coaster.

Left side open, right side closed - again I made the flower match.

Then I started adding Tim Holtz Remnant Rubs Life Quotes

I used more remnant rubs on the front cover - hello friend, enjoy today, best day ever, and her birthdate.  You can also see the TCW Mini Specimen stencil with Wendy Vecchi's Studio 490 metallic gold embossing paste - LOVE! and the TCW Chevron Tile Stencil I applied WV Studio 490 white embossing paste through and painted with Silks Acryllic Glaze Sky Blue.  I wanted it to look like book binding.  I made holes and tied it all together with seam binding that matched the inside art.

As much as I hated to because I hate my handwriting, I signed it for my friend with a Fude Ball Black pen.

Process photos:
I free hand drew a flower and leaves with a pencil.  I am no artist!  But this shows that YOU, too, can do this!  I went back in and erased the lines I didn't want.  NOTE:  These lines are just a guide and don't have to be perfect.

I closed the left coaster so I could match the leaves.

I closed the left coaster and matched the flower.

This is what the back looks like.

I painted the left with Tim Holtz Distress Paints, ( I own ALL of the colors!), Silks Acryllic Glazes, and added Inka-Gold for shine.  Everything was outlined with Adirondack Pitch Black paint.  On the right, I played with Gelatos just to see what they looked like on the coaster.

This shows how I scribbled the gelatos on and what happened when I added water with a wet brush.

Here I painted the leaves and BG with Tim Holtz Distress paint and then went over it with Silks Acryllic Glaze for a Beautiful shine!

This shows the TCW Chevron Stencil with WV white embossing paste.  When it dried, I went over it with Sky Blue Silks Acryllic Glaze.

In this last photo, you can see the butterflies and how pretty the specimens look in gold!

Well that's it!  I hope you like it!  My friend is going to swoon because she will KNOW how much time and Love I put into this triptych for her!  Sure beats my usual Birthday Card!

Also, DON'T FORGET!  There is still time to link YOUR beautiful creation using stencils to our eclectic Paperie ePlay Stencil Challenge!  It ends May 31st and YOU could win a shopping voucher to the eP Shop!  Come Play with us!
