Make Art Blog Hop Featuring Studio 490

Hi everyone and welcome to the starting point of our Make Art blog hop, featuring art from the eTeam and special guest, Wendy Vecchi! We're delighted to have Wendy joining us today, to not only share her products but also to share in her unique artistic style and to be inspired by each of the hop participants.  The full blog hop list is below but read through a few details of the hop before you start browsing!

Hey Y'all!!!

Tenia Nelson from Jazzy Paper Designs with y'all today. I created a card for y'all and it goes a lil somethin' like this.....CHECK IT!!!

I created this card using the Echo Park Everyday Eclectic Papers and the Sweet Stamp Shop Sweet Tooth stamp set which you can buy at the eP Store!!! Here are the directions on how to make this card:

1. Create card from Black cardstock.
2. Distress and adhere Black and White DP to card.
3. Distress, stamp sentiment and adhere Light Green DP to card.
4. Adhere Black and White ribbon to card.
5. Using a circle punch punch out a circle and adhere to ribbon panel.
6. Stamp image, cut out and adhere to circle panel.

I just love creating cards for Fall, so when I got these new Wplus9 stamps and dies from eclectic Paperie recently, I just couldn’t wait to create something!  Take a peek at this…

This is the Pretty Patches Pumpkin stamp set, and I used the matching Pumpkin die to cut it out.  The pumpkin is stamped wtih Ranger Spiced Marmalade distress ink, and the little leaf with Aged Mahogany.  The papers I used here for the fence and background are from the new Autumn Spice paper pad from Lilybee Designs.  For the layout of my card, I was inspired by the Retro Sketch #33 from a week ago, flipped upside down.



On the inside, I stamped the Pretty Patches Pumpkin again, adding the heart to the center and the sentiment from the set.

Graphic 45 Bird Song Collection Wall Hanging!

Sherry here with you today, and I’ve been working on a new chipboard wall hanging to show you.  Chipboard has become one of my favorite elements to work with and I’m quite happy to say that both 8.5x11 and 12x12 sheets of chipboard are now available at eclectic Paperie.  It comes in .022 thickness which makes it perfect to use with any of the thin format dies, which is why I absolutely love it!

For this hanging, a combination of 8x8 and 12x12 pads of Graphic 45 Bird Song Collection were used.  The base was constructed by die cutting 4 sheets of the 8.5x11 chipboard with Spellbinders Grand Labels One and gluing them all together with Inkssentials Glue N’ Seal.  A small shelf was made using wood hobby trim.  It was painted with black acrylic paint, highlighted with Antique Gold Buff n Rub, which was then wiped down with a damp cloth.  Once the wood was dry, a light coat of Walnut Stain Distress Stain was applied to the wood.  

The flowers were made using Spellbinders Blossom Five.   The edges were highlighted with ink, misted with water and Gold Perfect Pearls, shaped and then dried with a heat tool.  Once all the layers were dry, they were assembled with hot glue and a small black bead was added to the center.  GrungePaper was die cut with Foliage Two then covered with Forest Moss Distress Stain, to act as accents for the flowers.  The individual green leaves were die cut with Bitty Blossoms, misted with water and shaped while drying with a heat tool.  

The frame was die cut with Asian Motifs after the paper had been glued to a piece of chipboard.  The edges were highlighted with a gold leafing pen.  The image with cut out from the paper, glued to chipboard, and trimmed closer to the image.  

The sentiment “Dream” from Graphic 45 Bird Song Cling Stamps Set 3 was stamped on a scrap of the Bird Song paper, distress a bit with some one step crackle, sanded and then highlighted with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

One of my favorite sayings is “something out of nothing” possibly because that is how all my projects start out.   Ok, actually it’s those happy accidents that just always seem to happen. Yes, I'm grinning :-).
So it should come as no surprise that my finished project started with as a happy accident. First let me show you the end result:

When working with paint and brushes, I will swipe the brush across a blank page in my art journal or extra watercolor paper to clean any excess paint off.   Well,  I was so engrossed in my work that it didn’t dawn on me until later that I was brushing paint onto brand new chipboard coasters .
Instead of throwing the coaster away, I added more color using Adirondack Paint Dabbers and Claudine Hellmuth paint.
As much as I love the dabber ends on the Adirondack paints, I like using a brush.  I simply unscrew the cap and dip the brush into the bottle.  Or sometimes I will pour a little of the paint onto a Inksessentials - Non-Stick Craft Sheet, then add a bit of Claudine Hellmuth Gesso with a craft stick.   Claudine’s gesso is perfect to give the paints some thickness. I love mixing paints, kind of takes me back to younger years playing with mud cakes.

After I was done covering the coaster with more paint, I stamped the ledger strip from Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous - Classics #6 with Jet Black StazOn ink.  I treated the coaster and the stamp like a mixed media project, meaning that I didn't worry about getting a perfect stamp impression.  Actually, I added a little more paint randomly.

I really wanted to use the Mini Poppies template from The Crafters Workshop.  I didn't use the flowers, instead just stenciling the sentiment with a Purple Twilight Paint Dabber.

The base is die cut from Chipboard, which is covered with paper from Graphic 45's Bird Song 6x6 pack.  The other layers are made up of chipboard covered with papers from My Minds Eye Lost and Found 2 Breeze,  die cut with Spellbinders Labels One.  I edged all the panels lightly with Vintage Paper Distress Ink and Inksessentials Foam Blending Tool.

Added some premade paper flowers, Maya Road Vintage Leaf Pins and black Kaiser Self-Adhesive Rhinestones.  Some left over ribbon from my sewing basket added that little something I thought it was lacking (and I used up some hoarded supplies - you know gotta make room for new stuff).

To add depth, I used Scotch Foam Mounting Tape.   Because I wanted to make sure that the tape would not be noticeable, I used my black Copic marker to color the edges of the foam squares.

I couldn't decide of to punch holes in the upper corners and make it a wall hanging or add an easel back. In the end, the easel back won out. :-)
And that my friends was another "oops" that turned out pretty cool I think.  To me it's like card making met mixed media.
