Inspired by.....

Hello, it's Sue Lelli here today to show you how I was inspired by none other than Donna Downey!  I took a class from her not knowing we would be working with faces ~ NOT my thing!  I spent most of the class frustrated because I couldn't even do the first step which was a new technique (for me) called image transferring.  So what did I do?  I followed all of the rest of her steps, learned as much about technique as I could, ended up with something I was sort of pleased with - but only honestly because Donna was kind enough to help me plus give me encouragement.  That might have been the end of the story but I was determined to try it again.  My artist friend, Maria, drew a face for me to keep and use and I tried the image transfer again.

Tah!  Dah!  Here is my canvas ~ inspired by Donna Downey!
Isn't she Pretty?!

I used words from the TCW mini Art is stencil to create my message.  Wendy Vecchi's black embossing paste did the trick.  "Art is just color and shape, feelings and experiences"

At the bottom I added "release and surrender" to remind myself to just let go and try new things with my art, even if it's uncomfortable!

Some process photos:
This shows the image transfer with the face my friend drew.  You will probably be seeing this face again!

Next I used gelatos in several colors and sprayed it with water from a mini Mister, and then mixed it around with my fingers.    I used gelatos to color her face, neck and hair.  I then added definition with Prisma watercolor pencils.  Thanks, Donna, for literally showing me how to on my class piece!  I colored the eyes and lips with the Prisma pencils as well.

Next I made a background using my FAV TCW confetti stencil and Tim Holtz Distress paints in shades of pink, orange and yellow.

Then I used the Dina Wakely plastic canvas stencil ~ LOVE ~ to add some more color to the background.  I pounced  Tim Holtz distress ink in mustard seed with the mini ink blending tool.
I rubbed golden paint around the outside edges, added a Prima resin butterfly, a little lace, and considered it done!
I hope you like her!

Fall Leaves for the ePlay Challenge

Hello, everyone!  It's Broni here with you today to show you what I created for this month's ePlay Challenge: Fall.

I decided to go with one of the first techniques I learned way back when I first started stamping.  Before the days of alcohol markers.

I pulled out my Ranger alcohol inks, my alcohol blending solution, my alcohol ink applicator and some glossy paper.  And this is what I came up with:

First I used my TCW Mini Onion Skin 6x6 stencil and my ink applicator to apply some Lettuce alcohol ink to my background panel.

Then I applied some Cranberry and Butterscotch inks to my applicator with a little bit of the blending solution and dabbed it directly onto my solid maple leaf stamp and stamped it onto some more glossy paper.

I then proceeded to use a different applicator pad for each of my combination of inks.  (Colors: Cranberry, Butterscotch, Lettuce, Wild Plum)  Each time I applied a new color combo some of the dried color from the previous application to the stamp was reactivated. This resulted in many different varieties of color combinations.  Kind of what you'd actually find in autumn leaves!

I found that I couldn't stop myself!  I ended up with many, many leaves to use on future projects!  I really love the ones  on which you can see the veins!

Finally I used each of the previously used pads and coated some more glossy paper allowing all the colors to blend together.  I stamped my maple leaf outline stamp in Ranger Archival Jet Black ink several times.

Then I cut out a few of my favorite leaves and added them to my card front along with a simple sentiment and some sequins.

And that's it!   Pretty simple, but that's how I've been rolling lately.  I love the clean fresh look of this card!  Who says autumn colors have to be deep and dark??

Now it's your turn.  Let's see what you come up with for the ePlay challenge!!  I can't wait!

Embossed Fern Leaf

Hi, everybody!  It's Broni here today with my project for this month's ePlay challenge: Embossing.

It's a simple card but I just love the dimension that embossing gives to any project.

I started by placing my Mini Ferns stencil onto my card stock.  I used some Ranger tissue tape to hold it in place.

I pressed my Shabby Shutters ink pad onto my craft sheet then mixed in some white embossing paste with my palette knife.

I spread it lightly and evenly through the stencil.

Next I added some translucent embossing paste using the Tiny Circles stencil, and sprinkled on some Tumbled Glass Distress Glitter.

Using my water brush and some Peeled Paint ink I added some shadows to the embossed fern after it had dried.

The last step to complete my card front panel was to distress and sponge the edges with Tumbled Glass ink and a mini ink blending tool.

I added a hand cut flag and used one of the pieces of tissue tape on it that I had used to tape the stencil down.  No waste!  I used my Mini Attacher to attach a piece of Film Strip Ribbon, then added my die cut Happy using foam mounting tape.

And that's it!  My ePlay challenge: Embossing project!  I hope you'll play along too!

Thanks for stopping by!
