I first of all removed any labels as far as I could and as the box is quite smooth I lightly sanded it so it would have some tooth for the paint I wanted to use.
I used some masking tape to cover part of the base as I didn't want to paint it as the lid wouldn't slide on too easily if I did. I then painted both parts with a pale blue chalk acrylic paint.
I then used the Mini Diamonds stencil and Wendy Vecchi's white Embossing Paste. When it was dry I gave the lid another coat of paint.
The colour scheme for this box is totally centred around some Petaloo flowers that I have and have been itching to use (you'll see the flower towards the end). I used a babywipe and started to build up layers of paint, painting it on and then wiping it back.
I carried on until I reached the colour combination I was happy with.
I didn't want to use embossing paste on the base so I stencilled it with more paint, mixing the colours to match the lid.
Now you cand see the gorgeous Petaloo flower ! The square Maya Road buttons are wooden and I've painted them then stamped them using the Wendy Vecchi Vintage Tapestry background stamp and Cornflower Archival ink. The Maya Road bingo piece has had paint wiped over the top to change it's colour.
I've used a piece of burlap beneath the flower and also added two pearl stick pins and some little metal leaves that I've painted too.
The wooden cage is also by Maya Road and has been painted using the babywipe I used for the box. The little metal flower has been painted and the paper flower has been made using the Tim Holtz Tattered Flower strip die. I painted the card before die cutting the flowers, layered them up and added a little pearl to the centre. The sentiment is from the Tim Holtz Simple Sayings set.
I hope you've enjoyed today's project and I hope you can join us for the Get Altered challenge !
Have a lovely week end !

What a magnificent box Sue. I still have mine lying around somewhere, so maybe I could put it to better use than hiding in a cupboard. You are such a talented lay. Hugs Rita xxx
