Make Art Blog Hop Featuring Studio 490

Hi everyone and welcome to the starting point of our Make Art blog hop, featuring art from the eTeam and special guest, Wendy Vecchi! We're delighted to have Wendy joining us today, to not only share her products but also to share in her unique artistic style and to be inspired by each of the hop participants.  The full blog hop list is below but read through a few details of the hop before you start browsing!

During the hop the team is going to be sharing the projects that they created with Studio 490 products but maybe more importantly we'll be sharing our experience of working with the products, how we created our projects, and what inspired us to create our piece.

The eTeam is a wonderful group of talented women, each with their own style. Some of us are clean and simple card makers, others love scrapbooking, and still others are drawn to altered art and mixed media projects. The goal of our hop is bring each of these designers and their favorite mediums together and to share how we've used these products to express our own individual styles through our work.

But...that's not all...eclectic Paperie is also offering a few specials during our hop.

  • This week only save 25% on all Studio 490 products, this includes Wendy's stamps, stencils, Art Parts, Book, and Blossom Bucket embellishments. Use code WENDY25 when checking out.
  • During the hop, comment on each blog and you'll be entered into a drawing for a prize package worth $50! Your package will include a collection of Studio 490 products as well as paper and embellishments from the store.

Wait...there's more!

  • We want to hear about what inspires you! Share your thoughts about why you create, what styles you're drawn to, even share a favorite project on our Facebook page. Next week I'll randomly select a winner from those who have commented on our Make Art Facebook posts and give away a $25 gift certificate to eP! Now...are you ready for some crafty goodness? Let's get hopping!

E-Team Journal Blog Hop Update

Happy Friday!

First weekend of May and lots of things going on. It's Star Wars day for some as it is "May the 4th". Tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo as well as National Scrapbooking Day. Today was to be the last day to upload your Journal Cover if you are interested in joining the E-Team Blog Hop next month. We've decided to extend the deadline and give you a couple more days. There are already some artful journal covers that have been shared. Please go to THIS POST to upload and share your journal cover. You have until Sunday, May 6th to upload your journal cover.

I am very late to share and post my journal cover. I think part of it was procrastinating and not wanting to commit to ink it up. I started with covering the cover with some Gesso. Spreading it thick was my goal as I wanted to etch some words the cover. Taking a pencil, I wrote some words in a variety of handwriting as well as random scribbles. I really wanted to create some texture.

To be safe, I let the covers dry overnight. I wanted to use some of my Claudine Hellmuth Paint Studio stash. I love these smooth paints and how you can mix it up. I used this helpful chart to create up to 51 colors with just the 15 existing colors.

Using water to create a color wash, I started to apply the colors onto the cover of my journal.

Using some Distress Ink (Vintage Photo) with a blending tool, I was able to tone down the colors a bit and highlight the etched words. I decided that my journal cover is going to be a work in progress for this E-Team Blog Hop series. I'll probably add some embellishments along the way.

I hope you find some time this weekend to get a little inky and create something for yourself. Thank you to everyone who have already shared their journal cover. You have two extra days if you decide to join in on the journal fun.

Have a great weekend and

eP Blog Hop, Get Your Faux On - Part 3

    Happy Last Day of March!

Time for a new e-Team Blog hop. The e-Team is ready to share Part 3 in our "Get Your Faux" series. We are featuring Faux Postage today.

Faux Postage is simply a technique to feature your stamped projects to mimic postage stamps. It can be as versatile as you want by customizing the "postage size" you would like to work with. There are a variety of Faux Postage techniques and tutorials out in the blog world. The e-Team got jump started by referring to the Splitcoaststampers tutorial by Beate Johns that you can see HERE.

Let's get some details of this new e-Team blog hop first:
    • Visit the e-Team blog participants to see their Faux Postage creations. There are a lot of variety in design and use of this Faux Postage look.
    • Please leave the e-Team comments beginning today - Sunday, April 1st.
    • 2 Random Winners will be chosen from the e-Team blogs to win a $25 eclectic Paperie gift voucher
    • Winners will be announced Monday, April 2nd on this eP blog.

Daisy Sparks (eP Blog, You are Here)

Starla Nelson is not joining us today but make sure you check out Exploring Creativity to see what she is up to.

    Let's Get Your Faux On....

There are many free templates available online if you do a search. I had a new Lawn Fawn stamp (Gnome Sweet Gnome) that I wanted to play with but found that Mr. Gnome was a little bigger size than a traditional postage stamp. I created my own postage outline using Pages on my Mac. Just had to create some rectangles with dotted outlines. Traditionally, you would create a mask for this faux postage technique but I wanted to go a more simple route.

Picking out the colors I wanted to use,  the coloring began.

Mr. Gnome dude is so cheerful and was the perfect image I needed for this springtime card. I reached for the new Lawn Fawn papers in a 6x6 paper pad. The design is called Bright Side. Love all the colors and cute designs.

I really wanted simple and easy so I cute some strips to layer on my 6x6 size card. I always find a little Distress Ink adds some dimension and interest to any project.

I created two cards with the image and my self-made faux postage template. No masking was involved, just cheerful papers & some Copic Markers.

You can always find all the new product arrivals at eclectic Paperie in our Brand Spankin' New section. We will not be carrying stamps anymore but you can go directly to most of your favorite stamp companies as they sell directly to consumers on their websites.

Wishing you a great last couple days of March Madness. Don't forget to see how the eclectic Paperie Blog Team (AKA The e-Team) got their faux on during this blog hop. Their projects will inspire you to Get Your Faux Postage On!

eP Blog Hop: Get Your Faux On, Part 2

    Happy February 29th!

Not sure where this month left but very happy for this extra day. The E-Team has prepared a blog hop for you today to celebrate Leap Day. It only comes every four years for it should be special.

The E-Team dug into their paper craft arsenal to get ready for Part 2 in our series we call, GET YOUR FAUX ON! The Blog Hop will feature Faux Marble.

    According to Wikipedia:
Marble is a metamorphic rock composed of recrystallized carbonate minerals, most commonly calcite or dolomite. Geologists use the term "marble" to refer to metamorphosed limestone; however stonemasons use the term more broadly to encompass unmetamorphosed limestone. Marble is commonly used for sculpture and as a building material.

Let's build on that. Paper crafters have been creating faux marble finishes to enhance their projects. There are so many different ways to achieve the marble look with inks, paints, papers, and more. I challenged The E-Team to create a faux marble look on their projects.

    • Visit the participating E-Team Blog Team members to see what Faux Marble paper craft she came up with.
    • Leave a comment for a chance to win an eclectic Paperie Gift Voucher for $25.
    • You have from today, Feb 29th to March 2nd, Friday to visit each E-Team blog hop participant.
    • Two random winners will be announced on Saturday, March 3rd.

Daisy Sparks (eP Blog, You are Here)

Linda Ledbetter is not joining us today but make sure you check out Studio L3 to see what she is up to.

I love the look of Faux Marble and amazed at all the different ways that you can achieve this look. I had an idea for this reviving an oldie, but goodie. I've been using this technique ever since it was first introduced to me. I've done with my Girl Scouts as part of their art lessons, and my kids have enjoyed, too. It's great for creating all kinds of backgrounds on paper since no two are ever the same.

I am referring to the Shaving Cream Technique. With some plain white cardstock, foam shaving cream and all those inkers you have, you can create some beautiful, one of kind backgrounds.

I used some pie tins to get started. Plain foam shaving cream works best. Your paper may smell good afterwards, too. Usine some Distress Re-Inkers, I dropped some Tumbled Glass and Wild Honey into the foam shaving cream.

With a toothpick or bamboo stick, lightly swirl to mix up the colors...but only a little.

I had cut my white cardstock into A2 size squares and just lightly set them on top of the shaving cream mixture. Use a spatula, your scrapper or even you fingers to swipe the shaving cream off of the cardstock. You will be left with some unique backgrounds.

I thought these papers would be great to use with this butterfly die called Fanciful Flight. It was just what the wings needed.

Here are two ways that I used the various backgrounds that I was able to create with the Re-Inkers and shaving cream. The Studio 490 stamp, Visions of Art, suited the project well.

Don't forget to see what The E-Team has created for this Blog Hop. Have a great Leap Day and GET YOUR FAUX ON!

New E-Team Blog Hop: Get Your Faux On, Part 1

Are you ready for a new E-Team blog hop series? We are going to get our Faux on as we begin a new series featuring faux techniques. There are so many out there and we thought it would be fun to try them and see what we could come up with it.

Part 1 is featuring a technique that we all fell in love with thanks to Wendy Vecchi. About a month ago, Wendy shared what she called "faux crazed porcelain" that featured Ranger's Glue n Seal plus Distress Rock Candy Crackle Paint. You can see the original post HERE and also HERE. With a little drying time, some inks, and your imagination, you can create some projects. Take a look at what the E-Team came up with:

    Daisy Sparks (You are Here)

    • Visit each of the E-Team members and leave them some feedback about their creation.
    • 3 winners will win a $25 eclectic Paperie Gift Voucher;
    • You can visit and leave the E-Team comments on their blogs beginning today through Sun, Jan 22nd.
    • Winner's will be announced late Mon, Jan 23rd on the eP blog.

I got out my Glue n' Seal, some Distress Crackle Paint (Rock Candy) and found something to start my project. It was fun trying to figure out what to do with this little glass bottle I bought at the craft store.

My mom's birthday is this weekend so I will be giving this cute little vase to her. I think it can go on her desk and I will put some fresh daisies in it. I just have to do it, right?

Playing with the Glue n' Seal was kind of addicting. It's a great medium to use as a "primer" of sorts on surfaces that just need a little teeth so you can apply something over a smooth surface. Once you get started, you'll just want to use Glue n' Seal on all kinds of clear glass or plastic surfaces.

I found these glass candle votives, started to paint them, and then came up with this idea as to their purpose. With Valentine's approaches, I thought these two cute holders can sit near our family computer area when someone needs a little TLC.

It is a little hard to see with the red Hershey Hugs & Kisses against the Fired Brick Distress Ink applied to the crackle paint surface. Here's another photo so you can see a little of the ink that highlights the cracks from the mediums used.

The "faux crazed porcelain" technique is really a fun and versatile way to use the Glue n' Seal and some Crackle Paint. Experiment between using inks or Distress Stains for color. You will want to see what else you can apply this medium on and try out different colors. I think clear buttons and those Starbucks Frappaccino bottles would be some good surfaces to try this techniques out.

Don't forget to visit each of the E-Team ladies and their blogs to see their projects. Leave a comment here and also let me know what other "faux" techniques you would like the E-Team to feature in future E-Team Blog Hops.

    Happy Friday!

E-Team Blog Hop - Embellishment Bits Day 2

Happy Friday! Welcome to Day 2 of the E-Team Blog Hop.

Joining in on the E-Team blog hop fun. I knew these new Maya Road Embellishment Bits Kit was going to be fun to play with. Lots of options and so many uses. Trying to keep things easy peasy in the midst of holiday chaos. Between kid stuff, school stuff, and work stuff, paper crafting is precious. I have to make the most of the time in between carpool. I am all about fast and quick crafts right now.

I eyeballed those cute Round Journey Tins in the kit. With some extra supplies and paper, I was ready to make these decorative and useful jumbo paperclips with the round tins as a shaker element.

You can find this massive jar of Diamond Dust at your local craft store. Sometimes you may have to  look in the floral section. The Diamond Dust will make sound, shake and not stick to your project. You can get the jumbo paper clips at your local office supplies store. The 1-3/8 circle punch was the perfect fit for the Maya Road small round Journey Tins.

The Webster's Pages, Botanical Christmas & Winter Fairy Tales 6x6 paper pad had some perfect sized designs for my project.

The 1-3/8 circle punch did the trick with its coordinating fit.

The silver round journey tins were just a little off in terms of coordinating color with the jumbo paper clip. I took my alcohol ink pen to paint just a little color directly onto the tin.

Next, to figure out how to seal the lids tightly, I used some Multi-Medium Matte and squirted a little around the inside rim lid.

With some ribbon bits around the jumbo clip, everything was ready to be assembled. Use something like E-6000 to glue the paper clip to the back of the small Round Journey Tin. Drying time is required. I have found that with something like this project and the amount of times it is handled, E-6000 seems to be more secure than something like hot glue. You can add a piece of felt, a flower, or a rosette to the other side of the jumbo clip for a more finished look.

These jumbo paper clips with a decorated round shaker tin is a cute add-on to any gift tag, holiday recipe card, or note to someone special. We all need a little help keeping our holiday lists and coupons all together, too.

Don't forget to visit the following E-Team Members to see what they created and shared for this blog hop:
