Adventurous Life

Hi Everyone!
I have not had time to play in my Dylusions Journal in a couple of weeks, but with the arrival of  happy mail from eP, I made time to play this past weekend.  And I made sure to play not only in the Dylusions Journal, but also with the Splash of Color Silks Acrylic Glazes, and the new TCW stencils from Dina Wakley .

First I have to talk about the Splash of Color Silks Acrylic Glazes! What makes these different from any other acrylic paints, besides the beautiful shimmer.  Besides gliding onto your surface like ..... well, silk, the number one reason I LOVE these is that I (or you) can not muddy the colors! When I get into my creative zone, I grab paints and sometimes I don't pay any attention if a color runs into another color and to be honest, I have a cheat sheet to remind me of what colors will make mud when mixed together.  So no muddy colors - blessing for me :-).
Head over to Marah Johnson's blog.  She has awesome video tutorials to fully explain these wonderful paints.  And taking my cue from one of her tutorials, I started by spritzing my pages with water and then brushing the glazes onto the still damp pages:

Then I gave both pages another nice mist with water and sprinkled Kosher Salt over them.

Once dry, I brushed the salt off and really loved the effect - always have but the shimmer from the mica in the paints adds such a nice touch.   Sadly, the camera does not do the shimmer justice.
Next I added a couple of zigzag lines on each page using a paint brush and acrylic glaze and pouncing it onto the  Prima - Donna Downey 12x12" Art Stencil - Chevron Grunge.  Dots were added the same way using TCW's 6x6 Messy Circles by Dina Wakley stencil.  Then I layered Casey & Penelope stencil over the Perforated Dot Flower stencil and added more glaze.

And of course I had to add some splatters using Distress Paints. Next I added more texture using Studio 490, Unity and of course She Art stamps.

I used Fancy Pants' 5x3 Life Stencil Set with Studio 490's black Embossing Paste.  Once dry it was dry rubbed (meaning my finger was the brush) with some Gold Precious Metals Effect Paint.

Using Faber Castell gelatos and big brush pens to add a little depth and shadwo to the "gals" and around the dried embossing paste sentiment.
In plain terms....... I had a blast, just playing and not worrying!

However, I did have a huge mess up which I'll share after my second page..... you might have caught it.
But first, on to the other half of my spread.  I had to play with the adorable Prima Mixed Media Peasant Doll stamp , which I stamped onto a book page with Jet Black Archival Ink twice.  I trimmed the excess paper around the stamped image by ripping it and glued one of the stamped book page image onto the art journal page using Claudine Hellmuth Matte Medium.  The other stamped image I just colored.  I wanted to see how these glazes looked on old book pages, which suck anything wet right up,  versus on top of matte medium.
I was still able to "move" the paint using a wet brush and very little paint.  On top of the medium, the the colors were a little lighter but still..... I'm in love with these. For her skin and shadow, I used gelatos.
I added the butterflys as an after thought, I probably over did it.  I should have done the butterfly background stamping first.  Regardless, I love her and the page, even if the only thing each page has incommon is the background.

Now, did you catch my huge error?  In my haste to be creative, I didn't even realize I had my art journal upside down :-(.  Oh well, only me!
I hope you were inspired to throw caution to the wind and just play with paints, stencils and these wonderful new Silks Acrylic Glazes.
