A Little Twinkle ~ mixed media tag

Happy 4th of July! It's Bonnie here today with a mixed media tag I created. This is the #10 size (just over 4” x 8.5”) so there is more real estate to play around. I began by covering the background with scraps of two different designer papers, tearing the edges of the darker one and overlapping the lighter of the two. Next I tore some vintage catalogue paper from the Michelle Hill Ephemera bundle and adhered it in two places.

Stencilling was applied first using white gesso and a couple of designs from TCW's Well Rounded stencil. Next Jet Black Archival ink was pounced on with a sponge through the Dina Wakley Plastic Canvas stencil. A little gesso was scuffed here and there both to knock back the printed text lettering and to lighten some of the dark blue paper. The same black ink was used to apply a TH text stamp in random areas. A crackle stamp was then added mainly on the lighter areas using WV Cornflower Blue Archival ink. This ink was also sponged around the tag's edges. Two chunks of Add a Little Dazzle metal sheets were torn (yes, it tears!) and embossed using a Cuttlebug embossing folder. The pieces were adhered to the tag with Scor tape and white gesso was added randomly with my finger.

The moon and stars were die cut from scraps of yellow designer paper using the Alterations Crescent Moon and Stars Bigz die. Each was inked around the edges with Scattered Straw and then Wild Honey Distress inks. The moon was given a doodled eye and outline with a black pen as well as Magenta Archival ink cheeks and lips before it was popped up on foam tape and adhered to the background. It was then outlined on the blue with Black Big Brush pen. The little girl from Tumblefish Studio was fussy cut, outlined in black to get rid of the white cut edges, and popped up on foam except for the part of her skirt which overlapped the moon. She was given a star to hold, a fancy hat cut from scraps, and some white dots on her dress.

The sentiment from Wendy Vecchi's Art Comforts set was stamped in Jet Black Archival onto the same yellow “moon paper”, cut out with a Labels One die, and matted with the dark blue paper. A little faux stitching was added prior to popping it up on foam tape. A chunk of cheesecloth was tucked underneath to suggest a cloud.

The finishing touches were Black Big Brush pen along the outside edges, doodling and outlining with Black Micron pen, and some punched scraps of black cardstock. Three black pearls were added to the top right corner and a length of black grosgrain ribbon was stapled to the top of the tag.

Thanks for visiting today. I hope you get a chance to get messy soon!
