Hi everyone! Micki here. I have to confess that I had no idea not even a spark as to what to create for my post today. I’ve been remodeling the new craft room for the last month and just finished moving all my stuff into it. And that means that lots of supplies are still in boxes, nowhere to be found. However the great thing about moving all your craft supplies from various areas in your house into one room/area is that you find things you forgot you had (oh, and you realize you have way too much stuff!).
I found this:
I believe I purchased this at a yard sale a year ago! Well, that was perfect timing because the November Get Altered Challenge hosted by our Bonnie is Art Dolls.
After finding the “essentials”, I pushed boxes aside and started by applying a coat of gesso. At this point I still didn’t know how to get this art doll going. But I wanted some text on the face, hands and legs. I adhered Pink Paislee She Art Coffee Filter Sheets onto the doll using gel medium. Notice that I did not trim it down first. I let it dry and then used my Sanding Grip Block to sand the edges.
I also grabbed some Gelli Plate prints made earlier and glued these down on the body and arms. Next I painted the feet or shoes and the upper arms and upper legs.
On my craft sheet, I mixed Studio 490 White Embossing Paste with some Teal Zircon Silks Acrylic Glaze which was then stenciled onto the body using a Palette Knife .
Using different stencils, I stenciled onto the legs using Distress Ink and black paint.
I didn’t like the way the legs looked, so I painted over them (the lower part) and used Faber Castell Big Brush Pen to stencil. I offset the stencil a bit and using paint and finger dabbed some Raspberry paint through the Dylusions stencil.
Then came the part I had put off….the face. It’s been so long (or so it seems) since I’ve had time to draw a face that I was worried. I used a pencil to sketch the face and then used a black ball point pen. After I erased the pencil lines, I very gently dabbed gel medium onto the face because I wanted to use the Faber Castell markers to add detail, highlights and shadows. Once I had the face covered without smearing, I covered the rest of the pieces with gel medium as well. Once everything was dry, I used the Faber Castell markers. Around the edges, I used Distress Ink and my blending tool.
Added rub-ons around the neckline and found Tonic Studios Retractable Craft Pick perfect to scrape off some of the rub-on.
Using some left over ink sprayed tag, I covered it haphazardly with gesso and added the Idea-ology Alpha pieces.
After using craft or Popsicle sticks, I found I needed to cut the words apart. I used the Beacon 3-in1 Craft Glue to glue the craft stick to the hands, using Tim Holtz Scissors to cut them down to length.
I used some black wire found in hubby’s craft stash and wrapped it around the Idea-ology Fastners which were used to attach the arms and legs to the body.
And here she is…. my Art Fairy Doll for my new craft room:
Considering I had absolutely no idea, no inkling – nothing….. she didn’t turn out too bad.
The embossing paste added wonderful texture, which is so hard to see in these pictures… still have to set up my lighting in the new room. Although I had to get up and search for stuff, I can not tell you how great it felt to create – to get paint covered fingers.
You still have time to join in the Get Altered Challenge! Even if you have no idea, just sit down and play with your paints!
