New E-Team Blog Hop: Get Your Faux On, Part 1

Are you ready for a new E-Team blog hop series? We are going to get our Faux on as we begin a new series featuring faux techniques. There are so many out there and we thought it would be fun to try them and see what we could come up with it.

Part 1 is featuring a technique that we all fell in love with thanks to Wendy Vecchi. About a month ago, Wendy shared what she called "faux crazed porcelain" that featured Ranger's Glue n Seal plus Distress Rock Candy Crackle Paint. You can see the original post HERE and also HERE. With a little drying time, some inks, and your imagination, you can create some projects. Take a look at what the E-Team came up with:

I got out my Glue n' Seal, some Distress Crackle Paint (Rock Candy) and found something to start my project. It was fun trying to figure out what to do with this little glass bottle I bought at the craft store.

My mom's birthday is this weekend so I will be giving this cute little vase to her. I think it can go on her desk and I will put some fresh daisies in it. I just have to do it, right?

Playing with the Glue n' Seal was kind of addicting. It's a great medium to use as a "primer" of sorts on surfaces that just need a little teeth so you can apply something over a smooth surface. Once you get started, you'll just want to use Glue n' Seal on all kinds of clear glass or plastic surfaces.

I found these glass candle votives, started to paint them, and then came up with this idea as to their purpose. With Valentine's approaches, I thought these two cute holders can sit near our family computer area when someone needs a little TLC.

It is a little hard to see with the red Hershey Hugs & Kisses against the Fired Brick Distress Ink applied to the crackle paint surface. Here's another photo so you can see a little of the ink that highlights the cracks from the mediums used.

The "faux crazed porcelain" technique is really a fun and versatile way to use the Glue n' Seal and some Crackle Paint. Experiment between using inks or Distress Stains for color. You will want to see what else you can apply this medium on and try out different colors. I think clear buttons and those Starbucks Frappaccino bottles would be some good surfaces to try this techniques out.

Christmas time is here! My family and I always plan an annual visit to Disneyland during the Christmas season. My husband and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary on Dec 18th with our kids and more family. Yes, I got married a week before Christmas. It was a great time and reason to gather family near and far. Even Santa came to our reception.

This photo is of the Disneyland Castle during our trip. It was a great way to start the countdown week to Christmas Day. The Castle is so pretty during the day with the Christmas decor against the California blue skies. You'll just have to visit Disneyland to see how it lights up the night during the holiday.

Hope your holiday weekend is filled with friends, family, love and joy. We'll be sharing some new end of year bundles and sales next week.

E-Team Blog Hop - Embellishment Bits Day 2

Happy Friday! Welcome to Day 2 of the E-Team Blog Hop.

Joining in on the E-Team blog hop fun. I knew these new Maya Road Embellishment Bits Kit was going to be fun to play with. Lots of options and so many uses. Trying to keep things easy peasy in the midst of holiday chaos. Between kid stuff, school stuff, and work stuff, paper crafting is precious. I have to make the most of the time in between carpool. I am all about fast and quick crafts right now.

I eyeballed those cute Round Journey Tins in the kit. With some extra supplies and paper, I was ready to make these decorative and useful jumbo paperclips with the round tins as a shaker element.

You can find this massive jar of Diamond Dust at your local craft store. Sometimes you may have to look in the floral section. The Diamond Dust will make sound, shake and not stick to your project. You can get the jumbo paper clips at your local office supplies store. The 1-3/8 circle punch was the perfect fit for the Maya Road small round Journey Tins.

The Webster's Pages, Botanical Christmas & Winter Fairy Tales 6x6 paper pad had some perfect sized designs for my project.

The 1-3/8 circle punch did the trick with its coordinating fit.

The silver round journey tins were just a little off in terms of coordinating color with the jumbo paper clip. I took my alcohol ink pen to paint just a little color directly onto the tin.

Next, to figure out how to seal the lids tightly, I used some Multi-Medium Matte and squirted a little around the inside rim lid.

With some ribbon bits around the jumbo clip, everything was ready to be assembled. Use something like E-6000 to glue the paper clip to the back of the small Round Journey Tin. Drying time is required. I have found that with something like this project and the amount of times it is handled, E-6000 seems to be more secure than something like hot glue. You can add a piece of felt, a flower, or a rosette to the other side of the jumbo clip for a more finished look.

These jumbo paper clips with a decorated round shaker tin is a cute add-on to any gift tag, holiday recipe card, or note to someone special. We all need a little help keeping our holiday lists and coupons all together, too.

So happy to see that you all enjoyed the fun E-Team Blog Hop featuring one of our favorite guilty pleasures (or daily must have)...Starbucks. The E-Team appreciated the time you took to visit their blogs and leave comments for them.

Before I get to some winners, thought I would show you a quick photo of the 1st Starbucks location which is located at Pike's Place Market in Seattle, Washington. My family and I went up to Seattle for a wedding last summer so I insisted we visit the iconic place where it all started. The Starbucks at Pike's Place is the only Starbucks that has the original brown logo with the original mermaid art. It's quite small but cozy and very historical. There are gift cards that are exclusive to this location as well as some other fun collectible mugs for the Starbucks collector. That's my youngest daughter taking a peak at the Barista's working away in the original location. Our visit made for some fun memories.

How Starbucks Saved my SIL on 9/11

With the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 this weekend, I wanted to share what I remember about September 11, 2011 because it was too close to home.

It's usually not good when your phone rings early in the morning while you are still asleep. It was my husband's sister and she said to turn on the TV. It was about 630 AM Pacific Time. Who knew what to think when we saw the images of the World Trade Center. We knew that my other sister-in-law, "RL", was supposed to leave from Washington DC that morning to return to California. RL flew a lot for her job and she had been there for a work presentation.

RL had not answered her phone so we knew she was on a plane somewhere, a plane that left from Dulles Airport. It was almost an hour that we all held our breath as watched the news. Finally, RL's husband made contact and found out that RS had safely landed in Louisville, Kentucky, as all planes were immediately instructed to land somewhere.

Here's what had happened. RL had a boarding ticket for the American Airlines Flight 77. She was supposed to be on that ill-fated flight. It was scheduled to leave Dulles Airport and go straight to Los Angeles Airport. The airline asked if anyone would be interested to get bumped off, get on a plane leaving for Chicago's O'Hare and then make a later connection with a final destination to John Wayne Airport(Orange County). RS had carry on luggage so she decided to take the offer and knew she could get some Starbucks at O'Hare while she waited for her connecting flight to Orange County.

A few things that RL has told us about the day. Her flight took off before Flight 77 so she remembers seeing the Pentagon (intact) from her plane that morning. Her plane was forced to land and all the passengers really had no idea what was going on or at least the extent of the morning happenings in New York. Everyone was questioned when they landed since really, no one knew if "that was all" the terrorists on anymore planes. RL was stranded in Louisville until flights resumed which took several days. It haunts RL to know that she was in the same boarding area/space as both the victims and terrorists. Who knows who she was standing next to. Reading the names of those who died on Flight 77 is always eerie for RL since it could have been her name in print had she not thought of Starbucks at O'Hare Airport.

If you get some free time, visit the 9/11 Memorial Website. The website has lots of photos and information. The actual memorial sits within the footprints of the World Trade Center towers. It will be dedicated this Sunday and officially open to the public on Monday.

Let's honor those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 and celebrate who they were. Remember the families left behind with big holes in their hearts. Let's also honor those first responders and the servicemen and women who have lost their lives to defend out freedom in Iraq and Afghanistan.

10 years later, I believe that THERE IS REASON TO BELIEVE. When 9/11 occurred, I was pregnant. One month later, my daughter was born on October 11, 2001. She is also now 10 and I have lots of HOPE for her and her generation.

New E-Team Blog Hop + an eclectic Challenge

IT IS TIME for a new E-Team Blog hop plus a new challenge for you.
I challenged the e-Team by giving them three materials to work with. I knew that they had these supplies on hand and were easily accessible. I gave them the following supply list to work with:

Distress Inks (could be a combination of Distress Ink Pads or Distress Stains)
Any kind of die (could be Spellbinders, Sizzix, Cuttlebug, Circuit, etc...)
and an EGG CARTON - incorporate into your project somehow. You could flatten it out, cut it up, or use it as a surface.

It's Better with Color Part 4: Tattered Angels

We are so excited to bring you Part 4 of "It's Better with Color" series. It's all about Tattered Angels and their new Glimmer Products that are debuting at the annual Craft & Hobby Association(CHA) Trade Show next week.

Tattered Angels Glimmer products come in a variety of mediums and sizes. There are also some 1 oz kits available as a great sampler of colors and collections. Here is a very brief overview of the 4 types of Glimmer mediums from Tattered Angels:

Glimmer Mist is the one that started it all. New and improved mix and bottle plus all the new colors make Glimmer Mist the classic spray that provides color and shimmer to your projects. Glimmer Glam is a water-soluble paint with chunks of glitter that you can paint onto your surface. Glimmer Glaze can be painted on all sorts of surfaces just for a subtle sheen. The Glaze can be an additional layer on top of another medium, too. Glimmer Mist Chalkboard leaves an opaque finish to your projects.

They all work together or alone. You can use them with your inks or other paint mediums. They can be used of lots of surfaces including wood and metals. They can be sprayed on textiles and give new life to color up something like white ribbons or flowers. It's fun to experiment.

Wait till you see what the E-Team created with the Tattered Angels products. Application to flowers and ribbons were a no-brainer but the E-Team floral creations are simply stunning.

It's time for Part 3 of "It's Better with Color" series. I challenged the E-Team to dust off their Ranger Alcohol Inks and get re-acquainted with some techniques. There are so many uses for Alcohol Inks so you'll get to see a variety of uses from the E-Team.

Do you remember those alcohol inks in your stash? If you are new to this medium, just know that the Ranger Adirondack Alcohol Inks comes in many colors, is fast drying, and adheres to slick surfaces like metal, plastic, acetate, dominoes and glossy paper. There is a Blending Solution that is sold separately that helps to lighten colors and also assist in cleaning up alcohol inks.

You can also use an Alcohol Ink Fillable Pen to ink up individual staples and other metal embellishments.

New E-Team Blog Hop Series: It's Better With Color

The E-Team is starting a new blog hop series called, "It's Better with Color!" Part 1 is Coloring with Stampavie. These line art images are designed by artists such as Mo Manning, Penny Johnson and Sarah Kay. Stampavie stamps are unmounted acrylic stamps with lots of fine details. That makes them the perfect candidate for coloring. I challenged the E-Team to break out their Copic Markers, inks, and watercoloring skills for this blog hop. We all learned to color in school but no one ever said you had to stop. With the right medium and tools, coloring can be fun.

The E-Team chose their favorite Stampavie image. Their mission was to color away using any medium and tools. To make it more fun, we also invited the Stampavie Design Team who also took on the challenge. The range of coloring, use of color, and overall design will amaze you. There is something for everyone and you'll see some images that will make you look at that stamp in another way.

Tim Holtz® Distress Ink Reinkers come in 36 colors that coordinate with the 36 Distress Ink Pads. The Reinkers are really more than just a reinker for the pads. The Reinkers come in a little glass bottle with a dropper so it allows you to do things like dye, paint, or directly tint your project with the water-based dye ink.

You can read all about the new Distress Stains and product info on the Ranger Ink website. You can also download a resourceful chart. If you love the Paint Dabbers, these new Distress Stains come in the same design for easy control and application of this ink. E-Team Blog Hop: Get Distressed, Part 2 - Wrinkle Free Distress Technique

Crafty Secrets - can't resist Alice in Wonderland(perfect for spring) and Wizard of Oz set is wonderful.

Unity Stamps Itty Bitty stamps - a great value for these deeply etched stamps. You receive two (2) individual stamps(image + coordinating phrase) with most of them, unless specified. In celebration of our 4th birthday, eclectic Paperie is debuting our very first eclectic Kit. A special configuration of items to alter, this debut kit is simply called, ChUnKy aRt. The E-Team will give you some ideas and inspire you to want to make your own. Get yourself a snack or hot drink to keep you company while you enjoy this fun blog hop.
