Better under pressure!

Are you one of those people who works better under pressure?  I am!!!  I have been busy with my December Daily, catching up on layouts and cleaning like a mad-woman!  Here is a layout that I wanted to share with you.  It is of my son turkey hunting.  I used Authentique-Thankful Collection Kit!  I added some embellishments I had on hand.  To get the brown affect on my wood veneer feathers, I pressed them to my slightly dry ink pad.  Inking, layering papers and using foam tape for added dimension have been my go to's for some time.  Just recently, I started getting out my sewing machine to add a stitch or two on my layouts.

Whimsical Tree Clean and Simple!

Sherry here with you today!  I found this week that I was in need of a classic, clean and simple card.  Now those of you who follow me on a regular basis, know that this type of card is not my general preference to make and it definitely is not my style.  However, it is exactly what I have to share with you today.

SCheeverWhimsicalTreeDec27

The tree was die cut/embossed with Spellbinders™ D-Lites Whimsical Tree and then little pearls were added for embellishment.  The tree itself was layered on panels die cut/embossed with Classic and Scalloped Ovals.

The white background panel was embossed with Spellbinders Elite M’Bossabilities.

The base and all other panels for the card were die cut/embossed with A2 Matting Basics.

Thanks for joining me today!

Quick Gift using Gelatos

Good Christmas Eve Morning, eP friends. Micki here with a quick little mini canvas gift.

Adventurous I am but crazy I’m not, so when I need a last minute gift, I turn to my craft room . I remembered that I had some 2.5”x2.5” mini canvases with little wooden easels and thought I’d use my Faber-Castell Gelatos.

To color the canvas, I used the assorted colors from the Blue collection. After the blizzard here in Kansas, I went with the purple combined with a bit of black for the ground to represent the snow. Gelatos are awesome to quickly color anything and the best part, no mess to clean up! I just applied the gelatos directly to the canvas and then used my wet finger to distribute and even out the paint. I’ve been itching to use my Studio 490 Dots n Stripes Borders stencil and used the stripes with some green gelatos. I didn’t go for the “grass” look, rather using the stripes more as texture. (That’s the story I’m sticking to since the green doesn’t show up very well.)

The houses were stamped onto book paper, cut out and adhered onto the mini canvas with Claudine Hellmuth Matte Multi Medium. Once dry, they were also colored with gelatos – the greens and yellows – and a paint brush. To add more texture, an old baby flip flop inked in Jet Black StazOn ink was used. For my stars in the night sky, I used some old gold mini stars and dots of Icicle Stickles. The word strips were created on my computer, printed onto regular copy paper and glued to down with Multi Medium.
I didn’t want to leave the wooden easel uncolored, so I used Seedless Preserves Distress Stain. I applied it directly from the dauber, using a brush only to get into the spaces the dauber wouldn’t reach.

It really only took a minute to completely color the easel and that my friends, was a very good thing because I needed to make three of these :-).   The whole gift took me about 15 minutes and that is a record for me!  Can you imagine doing this with one of the 6x6 or even 12x12 canvases?
Thanks for stopping by, and amidst the hectic chaos that some of you (like me) are experiencing trying to get last minute stuff done...... stop, breathe and enjoy this holiday!
And as a reward for all that you do, hop over to the shop and treat yourself.  Lots of new awesome stuff!!!!
Merry Christmas!

Every Possibility Journal Page

Hi there everyone and happy Saturday!!  Who is ready for the holidays?  I'm almost there...and since it's been a quiet few days I'm hoping to get in some crafting time next week.  How about you?

Today I'm here to share a few journal pages that I created last weekend.  (Does anyone else have a hard time not making two pages at once?  I just can't help making these big 'ol spreads...love 'em!)  This post is stock full of photos and details so sit back, relax, and enjoy browsing!

I created these pages in my Dylusions Journal, which is a the best journaling book out there...a full 9x12 inches of paper goodness!  I started by applying white gesso to both pages.  While the gesso was still wet I attached a few random pieces of tissue paper newsprint.  I love the tissue paper because it gets all wrinkled when it's dry...fabulous!
Once the gesso was dry I grabbed a few paint dabbers (I used Cloudy Blue, Willow, and Eggplant on these pages) and got crazy!  I used a brush to apply the Cloudy Blue to the top of the page and then just dumped some Willow on the bottom and rubbed it around with my hands (your fingers make great blending tools!)
And for some serious contrast I added the Eggplant.  Love the dark against the lighter colors.  I smooshed (technique term) the paint around and let everything completely dry before moving on.

Next I used the Mini Cursive Alpha stencil and Vintage Photo Distress Ink to add another background design element.  I'm a huge fan of text so I love the addition of the random text over the page pages.

Then I grabbed my new Donna Downey stamps from Unity!  These babies are huge (look at the size of those flowers!) and are perfect for large projects.  These definitely aren't the best pick for cards because of the size.  You're going to need to get altered to use these stamps!  Yippee!  I stamped the Hollyhocks stamp in the background but there were some changes that came up after I stamped these and I'll explain that change further down in the post.

I next stamped the Poppy Background stamps in Archival Ink on my page for placement.  (After I finished the pages I wished that I had stamped the flowers across the entire bottom of my pages...next time...)

My next step was to do some paper piecing with these beautiful flowers.  Since the images are large, they were super easy to cut out.  I used paper from the October Afternoon Farm Girl paper pad.  I used Matte Medium to glue the paper flowers to the journal page and just colored the stems with my Distress Markers.

At this point I noticed that the Distress Ink I had used to stamp the Hollyhocks image was not drying on top of the paint so...change of plans!  I used a paper towel to gently rub the ink away, which just added more beautiful color to the pages, and then I used the Chevron stencil and a Gold paint dabber (gold is the perfect addition to any page) to add a bit more design.
You can see that great gold accent on my final picture (click on any picture for a closer look).  The final steps included added a butterfly, using the Layered Butterfly stencil from The Crafters Workshop, a hand drawn "trail", and black paint circles around three words that were printed on the tissue paper and still visible, "forgive," "time," and "flourish."  Cool, right?  Did I want "drippage" from those circles?  You bet I did but there's no India Ink in my studio...do you think I'm going to get some of that ink?  You better believe it!  But black acrylic paint did the trick this time around!  My last bit was to add a sentiment (from my BFF Tim...ok, he's not my BFF but he should be, shouldn't he?)

Overall, I was happy with the page but feel like it's still missing something...I think I'm still a bit hesitant to go too crazy with the elements but I'm getting there and the best part?  I'm having a blast!  Come on and get altered with eP!

Enjoy and best wishes for a joyful and blessed holiday!!

Art Journaling with Gelatos

Marjie Kemper here, happy to share an art journal page I made using Faber Castell's gelatos.  I picked up a lot of tips taking classes with Donna Downey last weekend, and now I can't seem to pry the gelatos out of my hands!

All the colors are so rich and creamy, and the appearance can range from brilliant to muted depending on how you apply them.  This page is made with small shipping tags painted with gesso, then colored with gelatos.

I used two blues, a yellow, and black, rubbing the color into the tags with my fingers.  You get different effects rubbing with a dry finger or when using water (just lightly wet your fingers) so feel free to experiment to find the style you like.

I took two extra tags, treated them the same way with gesso and gelatos, then stamped with the Market Street tiny alpha background stamp and Cobalt archival ink. I like the look of the stamped tags on top of the plain tag background.

I used some favorite Stencil Girl stencils for the starbursts and the number border from the new Balzer Designs Tickets stamp set.  The DREAM letter stamps and fountain pen are oldies from my stash, stamped with Jet Black Staz-On.

So grab your journal and have a play with gesso and gelatos.  Kim has them in every color possible!

Tag Time!

Hi!

Birgit (Biggan) here again! We have lots of snow in Sweden and soon Christmas is here! Today I´ll show you some tags I´ve done! Two for Christmas and two that I can use anytime :)

For the Christmas tags I used stamps for this lovely set, Nutcracker Sweet I Cling Stamp
and paper from this paper pad, Serenade 6x6 Paper Pad, so smooth and useful papers!

For this two I used the cute bugs from the "Happy Bugs" stamp set! Love them!

Happy Christmas to all of you!
